Pfeiffer University is a private university located in the village of Misenheimer, which is located in Stanly County, in the US state of Carolina, in the state's southern Piedmont region, near the city of Richfield.
Pfeiffer was established in 1885, and it originated from a home school operated by Miss Emily Prudden, in the 19th century. It first began operating in the village of Lick Mountain in Caldwell County, NC, as the Oberlin Home and School, being named in honor of the family that made improvements to the property that the school owned, but a fire destroyed it in 1908 and it was moved to the nearby town of Lenoir, location which proved to be inadequate, 2 years later the school occupying its present location, in Misenheimer.
Today, the university offers its students numerous educational programs, in various fields of study, including in business, education, fine arts, literature and communication, as well as natural and health sciences and social and behavioral sciences.
Pfeiffer's athletic teams are known as the Falcons, who compete in NCAA Division II, as part of the Conference Carolinas. Their distinctive colors are black and gold.
Keith Crisco, '64 North Carolina Secretary of Commerce, Antonio Harvey, former NBA player, Dr. Amir `Ace` Gabr, '08 Co-founder of AGI consulting RTP in North Carolina, and Dr. Jewell Mayberry, Fulbright Scholar, are Pfeiffer's noteworthy alumni.
